Of Implantation in Feurio!: | No problems are known with this writer.
We received the feedback that this writer is working problem-free with Feurio!
from many users.
Unfortunately we do not have a sample of this writer, so we can not guarantee
the perfect support and can not always react well to error messages. The writer
is recommended for use with Feurio! with some reservations! |
| Remarks: |
External Laptop CD-Writer.
With different (separately available) cables it can attached to an PCMCIA, USB
or Parallel port. The "Premium Version" even offers battery operation
for "true" mobile operation.
Comments on the single interfaces:
- PCMCIA:
Supported operating systems: Windows 95/98, Windows NT
Our Comment: Works problem-free. During read-out (13x) about 50% CPU load
(450 Mhz P-III)
- USB:
Supported operating systems: Windows 98
Burning with 4x is completely problem-free. During read-out (1,5x) 100% CPU
load (450 Mhz P-III)
Our Comment: Burning works problem-free - but reading audio information is
not exactly perfect.
- Parallel:
Supported operating systems: Windows 95/98, Windows NT
With our system (450 Mhz PIII) burning with 4x was impossible - maximum 2x could
be reached. During read-out (0,8x) 100% CPU load (450 Mhz P-III)
Our Comment: Not recommended.
NOTE ABOUT WINDOWS 2000:
The writer doesn´t seem to work properly under Windows 2000. Drivers for
Windows 2000 are already available but they didn´t work on our system.
Partially the computer crashed during the installation of the drivers - the parallel
port driver even damaged Windows 2000 that badly that a "Blue Screen"
appeared at every start. Only by starting in Proteced Mode and removing the drivers
Windows 2000 could be "resurrected"!

Footnotes:
| 1) | Der Writer kann über
verschiedene (sperate erhältliche) Interface-Kabel an verschiedenen Schnittstellen
angeschlossen werden. Details siehe Anmerkungen | | 2) | On
some CD-Writers the actually usable buffer memory differs from the size of present
buffer memory. In this case first the actually usable buffer size and then the
size of present buffer memory (taking e.g. from the technical specifications)
is shown.
This is caused by the recorder requiring a part of memory for internal purposes
or the number of maximum storable sectors is limited.
PRESUMPTION: Another possible explanation would be: Due to the error correction
information and other coding a sector occupies much more space (i.e. not 2048/2352
bytes per sector but about 4000 bytes) on the CD than in memory. If the information
would be converterd to CD format BEFORE storing them in the buffer, they would
correspondingly require more space in the recorder´s buffer memory. This
reduces the actually usable buffer size. Example: Buffer memory = 2048 kb.
Size coded sector: 4194 bytes -> 2048*1024/4194 = 500 sectors can be stored
in the buffer. But in audio format these 500 sectors only represents 1148 kb
(500*2352/1024), so the buffer really stores only 1148 kb audio information,
although its physical size is 2048 kb.
