Feurio Questions & Answers - Questions on
CD-TEXT:
Will there be a CD-TEXT Update for my recorder?
Will this then be supported by Feurio!?
Question: I have got an xyz CD recorder.
Will there be a firmware update for this which can write CD-TEXT?
Answer: As a general rule, this can
only be answered by the vendor - please ask the vendor directly. Although there
are vendors who let us know an update is coming before the official publication
of the update and sometimes send us beta versions in advance so that we can already
implement Feurio! - although we are generally speaking not allowed to tell anyone
- so of course in this case we respect the vendor's wishes that the update remains
"secret" until the official announcement.
So you will not get any further information from us than is available on our
WebPage or on the vendor's WebPage.
Generally however the following applies: With "older" recorders there is hardly
any chance that CD-TEXT support will follow - even if this is theoretically possible,
the vendor will not do it - after all, he wants to sell new recorders.
Only with "current" recorders (i.e. still being sold) is there a chance that
a vendor will "Retrofit" CD-Text capability through a firmware update.
On this, also see: "Why is my
writer not CD-TEXT capable?".
Question: Will the update be supported
by Feurio!?
Answer: This very much depends on
the vendor's willingness to co-operate - of course we try to support every writer
as well as possible - however some vendors make it EXTREMELY difficult for us!
If we have been able to test beta firmware before an official firmware update,
then as a general rule, an updated driver is available when the firmware update
appears, or the driver supplied with the firmware "recognizes" from its version
number that writing CD-TEXT is now possible so that a driver update is not necessary.
If the vendors do not see the need to co-operate with us, it can of course take
a bit longer or, in the extreme, (if the vendor uses other commands than those
provided for in the standard) it may not be possible at all.
