problem-solving:
When reading tracks/copying CD I get error messages
Question: Every time I try to read a track I get an error message?
Answer: You have to differentiate between different cases here: - Reading
doesn't work at all (directly after starting an error message appears):
In this case the configuration of the drive is still incorrect. In the menu "Program"
call up the entry "Program parameters" and set the correct read commands to contact
the drive (for more details, see the help text of the dialog box).
- In principle reading works; but if I try to "read index marks" or try to
create an image copy, I get an error message:
In this case reading index information is not configured correctly. In particular
many "cheap" IDE drives are unfortunately incapable of reading index information.
In the menu "Program" call up the entry "Program parameters" and there call up
the item "Special parameters". Here you have to change the item "Subchannel data"
(Index). For further information see the help text of the dialog box.
- In principle reading works; but after reading I get an error message like
"Track smaller 4 seconds"; on trying the copy a CD I get the message: "Error
in index information".
In this case reading index information is configured incorrectly.
In the menu "Program" call up the entry "Program parameters" , there call up
the item "Special parameters". Here you then have to change the item "Subchannel
data in BCD-Format)".
- The errors appear sporadically or the data read is interrupted by unwanted
noise:
Here the following has to be said: Unfortunately many CD-ROMs are not capable
of reading audio data correctly - in this case it only helps to buy a new CD-ROM.
However it is also possible that errors in the system installation can cause
this error; examples of this are: - wrongly terminated SCSI-BUS
- too many devices connected to the SCSI-Bus, SCSI cable too long (in particular
with external devices)
- old ISA SCSI-Hostadapter
- IDE-CD-ROM: incorrectly installed Busmaster driver
- IDE-CD-ROM: some CD-ROMs do not work correctly in Busmaster (DMA) operation
-> deactivate DMA operation for the CD-ROM
- IDE-CD-ROM: Error in working with master or slave device: Change position of
the CD-ROM or for test purposes connect the CD-ROM alone (as Master) to an IDE
port .
(Unfortunately some CD-ROMs do not work with certain harddisks, writers or other
CD-ROMs)
- faulty/old ASPI driver
- Driver of other burning programs
- Packet-CD®, Direct-CD® or other Packet-Writing programs installed
Of course it is also possible that the CD is scratched or dirty.
