Feurio Questions & Answers - Feurio! CD-Writer
problem-solving:
I get Buffer-Underruns
/ System configuration
Question: Feurio!® is supposed to be so secure that you don't get any
Buffer-Underruns, but it still happens to
me?
How do I optimize my system configuration for burning?
Answer:Basically the following applies: If is only possible in Windows NT
to "secure" the burn process to such an extent that a Buffer-Underrun
is practically impossible, even with the computer load is high. Under Windows
95/98 this is unfortunately not possible, here a high load on the computer unavoidably
leads to a Buffer-Underrun.
However there are a few things to significantly reduce the risk of a Buffer-Underrun:
Install a Busmaster driver (only with IDE
devices)
If you have IDE devices in your system (regardless of whether harddisk, CD-ROM
or CD writer) it makes a lot of sense to install a Busmaster
driver. If there is no Busmaster driver
installed, the CPU load during all I/O operations is high and it may no longer
be able to serve the CD writer.
For more information on Busmaster operation
see "Busmaster driver"
Special Notes:
- FindFast (Microsoft® Office)
Microsoft Office installs a system program called "FindFast". At regular intervals
this program searches through the harddisks for office documents and creates
an index of these documents. As this search mainly consists of accessing the
harddisks, this may cause problems.
So if you do not need these indices, I would recommend that the deactivate automatic
index creation.
To do so, start the system control ("Start" -> "Settings" -> "System control"),
open the entry "Index creation" and delete all indices there!
- Activate Disconnect:
It often helps to activate "Disconnect"
- for detail on this, see "Definition of Terminology
- Disconnect"
