Feurio Questions & Answers - Explanation of
terminology:
Mixed-Mode-CD
You refer to a CD as being a "Mixed-Mode CD", as soon as there are different
types of Tracks on the CD (e.g. a data track
and several audio tracks).
A "normal" Mixed-Mode CD consists of a data track (Track followed by any number
of audio tracks.
The disadvantage of this is that many audio CD players try to play track 1 when
a mixed mode CD is inserted. In the best case nothing at all happens (i.e. the
CD player recognizes that it is not audio data and just emits silence) - but
some CD players try to interpret this data which of course leads to strange sounds;
in extreme cases it can even damage the speakers.
This disadvantage can be avoided using a "CD-Extra-CD".
