Feurio Questions & Answers - Explanation of Terminology:
Raw-Mode

There are two different ways to technically realize a "Disc-at-Once" recording:
"Cue-Sheet Mode" and "Raw Mode".
In "Cue-Sheet Mode" the burning program sends "raw data" to the burner - i.e. the burning program already calculates all control information necessary for a CD (e.g. the subchannels, the error correction information etc.) internally and then sends the "raw data" to the burner which as a general rule just writes it without checking it.
The advantage of this method is that the software has got full control of the data, so e.g. you can also write "defective" sectors.
The disadvantage of this method is that even the tiniest error in the software makes the CD unusable. It also means more effort for the computer.
