Feurio Questions & Answers - Feurio! CD-Writer problem-solving:
My CD writer is not recognized!

Question:
My CD writer does not appear in the writer selection box of Feurio?

Answer: There are several possible reasons for this:

  1. The Writer is not supported by Feurio!
Feurio! only shows devices in the writer selection box which it recognizes as being CD writers.

Please first test and see if Feurio! even recognizes the writer as an SCSI or IDE device.
    Please proceed as follows:
If the writer is shown here, then the writer is recognized by the system - but Feurio! can yet define it as being a writer as Feurio! does not know this writer yet.
    You now have 2 possibilities:
    a) Maybe there is already an update for your driver?
Just have a look on the Feurio! Homepage (http://www.feurio.de or http://www.feurio.com) and see if there is a new version of Feurio! or a new Feurio! driver update for your driver (Page: "Downloads"). Maybe this is all you need to make your writer work!
    b) Often new writers are just "OEM devices", i.e. are writer (which is technically identical) is sold under a different name.
Unfortunately in most such cases the "ID-String" of the writer is changed so that Feurio! can no longer automatically recognize the writer.
As soon as we become aware of a new OEM version, of course we include it in Feurio! - unfortunately many companies do not let us know which writer their writer "comes from".

You can however find this out yourself!
In Feurio! you can allocate a driver to a writer "manually", i.e. you can "tell" Feurio!, it should treat the writer the same as writer xyz.
To do so, proceed as follows:
    • Start the Feurio! CD-Writer. Here in the menu "Program" call up the item "Display device list".
    • If the writer is not shown here, there is another problem, see
    • Select the writer and select "Display device information".
    • Then click the switch "Use device as writer" in the selection box:
      {bmc faq_writernotfound.bmp}.
    • In the driver selection box then select the "driver" for the device which in your opinion is best suited. Feurio! will automatically suggest a driver, your are best to try the drivers in the order of the assessment.
"Hot" candidates are always: Philips CDD 3801, Ricoh 7040, Teac 56, Yamaha 4216.
If the writer doesn't work correctly, then by repeating this process you can select another driver.
NOTE: Instead of going via "Program" -> "Display device list" every time, then if you have selected the writer in the Feurio! CD-Writer, you can also press on the button "Info"!

  2. The Writer is deactivated in Feurio!
Individual devices can be "deactivated" within Feurio!
To activate a deactivated writer, proceed as follows:
  3. The Writer is not recognized by the ASPI-Manager
If the writer doesn't appear in the above mentioned list, then the writer is not recognized by the ASPI-Manager /System.
First check and see if the writer is recognized by the system.
To do so, open the Windows-Explorer, the writer must appear here as a "normal" CD-ROM. (Exception, some older 2x CD-Writers, e.g. Yamaha CDR 100/10.
If this is not the case, see

If the writer is recognized here, then this is very probably due to an old or wrongly installed ASPI-Version.
Start the Feurio! CD-Writer and here in the menu: "Extras", call up the entry "Carry out system diagnosis" and it will check if the ASPI driver has been installed correctly and if necessary will give further recommendations.

  4. The Writer is not recognized by the system!
If the writer is not recognized at all, then there is a problem with the system. In this case check that the drivers for your SCSI hostadapter or IDE controller have been installed correctly.
With IDE devices, check if the corresponding IDE channels in the BIOS have been activated and if the writer has been configured correctly (i.e. if the "Master-Slave" setting is correct).

With SCSI devices you have to check whether it is possible that an ID has been allocated twice and whether the SCSI-BUS has been terminated correctly. Ensure that the SCSI-BUS has been assembled correctly - "Star-shaped cabling configurations" are not permissible with the SCSI-BUS!
Cables which are too long (e.g. external scanner) or faulty SCSIdevices can also prevent recognition. Remove devices not needed step by step from the SCSI-BUS!
