Version 1.30:

Feurio! CD-Manager:

  • Reading of C2 error information implemented:
CD-ROMs have different levels of error recognition and correction. Many errors can be corrected by CD-ROMs.
One level of error correction is the "C2 error correction". Normally, correctable C2 errors are not reported - usually a CD-ROM will only report NOT correctable errors. But some CD-ROMs are capable of returning the amount of occurred C2 errors.
If the drive is able to return C2 errors, Feurio!® can display a warning message or dump the number of C2 errors at the end of the read operation.
This can indicate a "bad" CD or especially incorrect data (the error correction should normally correct the data - but since the error correction partially depends on interpolation some data may differ from the original).

  • "Shut down computer" at the decompress / compress dialog:
Now there's an additional button "Shut down computer" at the "Decompress / Compress tracks" dialog. Now you can shut down and switch off your computer automatically (if supported) after compressing or decompressing some tracks!

  • "Read index 0" implemented:
By activating the switch "Read index 0" at the "Copy tracks" dialog you can now also read the "hidden" data in the index 0 area of a track.

  • "Buffer full" message at the process dialog:
Since people have often wondered why their CD-ROM is not reading tracks as fast as it should (according to the device test) and the reason has almost always been the hard disk (that couldn't store the read data fast enough), we now have added a "Buffer full - waiting for hard disk" message to the process dialog.
This message will be displayed if the internal buffer of Feurio! is completely filled and the CD-ROM has to be "stopped" until the hard disk has written some data.
This way it should become clearer if the problem is the hard disk (because its too slow) resp. the buffer memory (because its too small) - and an annoying search for errors within the CD-ROM parameters will be unnecessary now!

  • CONVERSION TO VISUAL C 6.0:
Feurio! has now been converted from Visual C 4.0 to Visual C 6.0. Among other things Feurio! hereby has become a bit smaller (okay, the update package is bigger than before, but thats only caused by the new runtime libraries), also Feurio! should has become faster. Its possible that the new compiler may behave different from the old one in some cases and therefore may cause errors. Weve already tested the new version extensively, but ...

  • Odds and ends:
Drag & Drop from the explorer now works.
At the "Select data partitions" dialog you can now select any path (and not just <drive>:for storing wave files by simply double-clicking on the drive entry.
    Reading the directory improved:
Reading the directory now will be done in an extra thread, so the main window still reacts while the directory is read.
If this should cause errors -> Mail!

  • Error corrections:
Creating MP3s from projects with linked tracks now works correctly.
If the starting position of a track was modified with the track editor (i.e. a part of the beginning was cut) and after this the track has been linked to the previous track, the playing time of this track has been modified (partially even to 0) -> fixed.
Wave-Player: The setting of the start and end position has only be done correctly after pressing "STOP" -> fixed.
    Import of play lists:
When importing play lists the tracks have been illogically sorted by alphabet -> fixed.
Playing audio tracks from CD-Extra CDs improved:
Some CD-ROMs didn't play audio tracks from CD-Extra CDs correctly -> should now work better!

Feurio! CD-Writer:

  • Database link -> Create CD-Text CDs on-the-fly:
From now on Feurio! CD-Writer can access the database of Feurio! CD-Manager (if CD-Manager is started).
This way e. g. the name of the CD to be copied (if known) can be shown - so you can prevent copies of the wrong CD.
In particular now a DIRECT copy of a CD with CD-Text can be made!
To do so, just insert the CD to be copied, activate the switch "Write CD-Text" -> and a copy of the CD with CD-Text will be created (if the Feurio! CD Manager is started and the CD has an entry in the database)!

  • Copying with just one recorder
From now on it is possible to copy CDs with just one recorder (without a CD-Rom); first an image of the source CD is created, then the CD will be ejected; after that a message will appear, that an empty CD-R can be inserted - and after a CD-R has been inserted the burning process will start automatically.

  • "Insert CD-R" dialog
In previous versions the "Burn CD" button was deactivated when there was no CD-R in the writer. Since some users were "confused" by that, we have modified this: Now the "Burn CD" button is always activated; if there's no CD-R in the recorder, a dialog box will appear when the button is pressed asking for (an) empty CD-R(s) to be inserted. The burning process starts automatically as soon as an/all empty CD-R(s) is/are inserted.

  • Multiple copy improved:
The handling of multiple copies has been improved. If multiple copies are active, after one burning a message appears, in which e.g. the number of the CDs that already have been burned and the number of CDs that still have to be burned are shown. After inserting a new CD-R(or new CD-Rs when burning on multiple writers) the burning process starts automatically.

  • Storage of the reading speed (CD-Copy):
Until now the reading speed has been taken over by Feurio!, i.e. if for a CD-ROM e.g. the speed 24x has been selected in the Feurio! CD-Manager, this speed has also been used for the Feurio! CD-Writer. Since some users want to select the speed independently I have implemented an independent storage of the reading speeds.

  • CD-R database -> test date implemented:
The CD-R database now also contains the date of the test and the view can now be sorted by the test date.
Since the entries made by previous versions of Feurio! don't contain the test date, the test date entry will be empty for the old entries.

  • CD-R database -> handling of CD-RWs modified:
Unfortunately there are some vendors that sell CD-Rs and CD-RWs with the same official playing time (and of course same playing time), so that in this case Feurio! gets confused between the CD-R and the CD-RW. To remove this error, Feurio! now stores in the CD-R database if the CD-R is a CD-R or a CD-RW. The consequence is unfortunately, that Feurio! now does not detect the CD-RW tested by previous versions - so you have to test CD-RWs again.

  • Button "Image" implemented:
At the main dialog there's now a button "Image" at the CD-Copy property sheet. With this button you can create an image of the inserted CD; this image then can be burned later.

  • Show ATIP information:
Feurio! now can display the ATIP information stored on a CD-R. To do so select "Display ATIP information" at the "Extras" menu.

  • Dialog box "New device found" removed:
The dialog box "New device found" has confused some users. From there the dialog box has been deactivated now.
Now Feurio! won't show the dialog if new devices are found, but all devices that are definitely CD-Writers are added to the writer list.
All devices that couldn't be clearly identified as writers are not added to the writer list at first. But you can still manually configure these devices as writers by activating the switch "Use device as writer" (menu "Program", entry "Show device list" -> "Device info")
The old handling of new devices (i.e. showing a dialog box) can be re-activated with by switch "Manual driver selection" (section "Special parameters").

  • Changes at "Power calibration":
This concerns all writers that are addressed with the commands of the "Multi-Media-Command set), (i.e. actually all modern writers, e.g. TEAC 56/68, all Yamaha writers except CDR 100/102, Phillips CDD 3600 and higher, HP 7200 and higher, Sony CRX 100/110, Ricoh 7040/7060..).
Normally the writer should automatically perform a "Power Calibration" (i.e. adjustment of the laser power to the inserted CD) to do a perfect copy. Unfortunately some CD-Writers dont seem to do this. Thats why Feurio! from now on will send a command that instructs the writer to DO a "Power Calibration". CD-Writers which already do an automatic "Power Calibration", shouldnt be "disturbed" by this command (most CD-Writers will ignore it), so we added this command for all writers.
If any CD-Writer should have problems with the "Power Calibration" command -> please send us a notification!

  • New CD-Writers:
The following CD Writers will be supported from now on:
    Waitec WT624, WT824, WT2082
    HP 8200i (incl. CD-Text)
    SONY CRX 120 (incl. CD-Text)
    Creative CD-RW4224/4424 (incl. CD-Text)
    Plexwriter 8220 (incl. CD-Text)
    Mitsumi 4802
    Ricoh 7040S, 7060A, 7060S
    Ricoh 7040A corrected
Since RICOH now supports us, we finally could correct the RICOH 7040 driver; all errors known to us has been corrected.
    Memorex CDRW-4420, CDRW-1622
    Freecom Travelerstar 4x4x24
    Imation CD-RW Super Recorder 4x4x20
    HP 7500i
Support of this writer is provided without guarantee as HP could not manage to make a test model available to us, despite being asked to do so. Due to the lack of support from the manufacturer we can not guarantee that it will work correctly with Feurio!; for this reason we can unfortunately only advise against using Feurio! if you buy this writer!

  • Odds and ends:
No canceling of the writing process for Yamaha-Writers:
As some users reported to us that problems could occur when the users tries to cancel the writing process on writers of the Yamaha 22xx-, 42xx-, 44xx-series (even up to system crashes with lost data), we have (for the time being) disabled the cancel-button for these Yamaha writers.
Since Yamaha is not able to tell us the "correct" cancel-sequence or put a test model at our disposal (so we can test for ourselves), we have not been able to correct this error yet!
Analysis of CDs with an index 0 larger than 20 seconds:
In previous version Feurio! has rejected CDs that contain a track with an index 0 larger than 20 seconds, because we thought that this must be an error. But since there are some users, that want index-0's with more than 20 seconds, we have removed this limit.
Changed message for errors while writing the lead-out (overburning)
At "overburning" the lead-out usually doesnt fit on the CD anymore; that would normally cause the error message "Error during writing the lead-out". This error message is actually correct but has very irritated many users.
We now have changed the program in that way, that, if "overburning" was activated AND an error occurred during writing the lead-out, no error message but the "normal" ready message is shown. It is merely noticed in this message, that an error occurred during writing the lead-out.
If "overburning" was NOT activated an error message is shown as before.

  • Error corrections:
    Image copies without index markers:
If an IMAGE of a CD has been created (i.e. switch "on-the-fly" deactivated), always the index-markers have been read in previous versions (independent of the switch "Copy index markers". -> corrected (i.e. the CD can now be copied also without index markers).
Background: Some CD-Roms will read the data much faster, if the reading of the index markers is deactivated.
Burning of projects with mp3 files with different bit-rates:
We noticed, that some mp3-codecs have problems, if several mp3-files with different bit-rates shall be decoded and burned in order. So we have implemented an "artificially" decoder reset (closing and re-opening the decoder), after decoding one track.
    Copying "short" CDs:
If an on-the-fly copy has been created of a CD with lesser content than the buffer-memory can hold (i.e. the buffer couldn't be filled totally), Feurio! has hung when filling the buffer -> corrected.
Automatic shut down after burning a CD:
The automatic shut down of the computer after burning a CD does now work again.
