Version 1.52:

Feurio! CD-Manager:

  • Trackeditor: Improved record function:
The record function has been completely reworked. The following new functions have been added:
    Soundcard can be selected:
You can now choose the soundcard which the recording is to be made from (for computers with more than one soundcard).
Soundcard can be configured (input, volume):
As of now the input to be used can be selected in Feurio! directly and the input volume can be changed.
    Direct recording in mp3 format:
As of now, the Trackeditor can record audio data directly in mp3 format - providing the computer is high-powered enough - (i.e. the data is coded in mp3 format directly while recording). Thus the problem with the maximum length of wave files is solved (when recording in wave format, due to the structure of wave files, a maximum of 202 minutes can be recorded - the mp3 format in contrast can accept files of any length you want!).
Activation: Start the Trackeditor, start recording, press the button: "Expanded >>".
    Recorder-Timer:
Following many requests, we have implemented a "recorder timer" Using the "recorder" the recording can be started at a pre-determined time.
Activation: Start the Trackeditor, start recording, press the button: "Expanded >>" twice.

  • CD/Wave-Player improved:
    Popup-Menu for track titles:
By clicking a track button with the RIGHT button, you can now call up a popup menu which makes it possible to call up various actions directly (e.g. activate/deactivate the track, call-up track editor, resorting etc.)
    Pulldown menu:
A pulldown menu has also been introduced. In principle, the pulldown menu "only" contains the familiar settings from the system menu.
    Soundcard selection:
If required, you can now display a box to select the soundcard in the player directly (for computers with more than one soundcard)

  • New entries in the menu "Extras" (previously: Options):
The menu: "Options" has been renamed "Extra" (to provide a unified structure, the same as the Feurio! CD-Writer).
In the "Extras" menu, the familiar entries from the Feurio! CD-Writer, "carry out system diagnosis", "ATAP DMA settings" (only Windows NT 4.0) and "rescan SCSI-Bus" have been included. The entries have the same function as in the Feurio! CD-Writer - so as of now it is possible to call up the system diagnosis in the Feurio! CD-Manager as well.

  • "Turbo-Mode" implemented for UltraPlex 40:
A "turbo mode" has been implemented for the Plextor UltraPlex 40 CD-ROM which makes it possible to read at up to 40x (!). Thus a complete CD with 74 minutes can be read in ca. 2 minutes, 30 seconds!
Activation of the "turbo mode": Select speed "Max".
Caution: In "turbo mode" the drive does not reduce the speed when there are read errors - i.e. when reading a "bad" CD, incorrect data may be read!
Furthermore, the option "No Speeddown" has been introduced for the UltraPlex 40 series:
Every speed level from 4x onwards is now available twice: One is "normal" and one has the additional "No Speeddown". Selection of the level with the additional "No Speeddown" means that the drive is instructed not the reduce the read speed, even if there are read errors (However repeats are still carried out , i.e. the "real" read rate which e.g. Feurio! reports, is of course reduced nevertheless).

  • Date display / input according to windows settings:
The date display and input are done as of now in the same format as the Windows system control -> Country settings - so now the date is shown in other countries in the familiar format.
This affects e.g. the CD-Editor, database view, writer-log etc.
If we have accidentally missed out a date anywhere (i.e. the date still appears in the "wrong" format) - send us a mail!

  • CD-Extra CDs and CDDB-Request:
Unfortunately, in the documentation available to us on the CDDB-Request, there is no precise definition of how CD-Extra CDs are to be handled - there are various possibilities here. As we have found out, it would appear we selected the wrong one in Feurio! - most CD-Extra CDs were not recognized.
So we have changed the routines for CD-Extra-CDs - now most CD-Extra CDs should be recognized by the CDDB database.
This has made some internal changes necessary in Feurio! (the routines to calculate the disc identification number had to be changed), should this cause any problems in recognizing CDs or CDDB-Requests, please let us know!

  • Minor details:
    Creating the VBR Header:
If an up-to-date LAME version (as of Version 3.85) is used, Feurio! now also creates a VBR header, so that other mp3 players display a correct play-time
Command "Correct capital / small letters" (CD-ROM view, right mouse button, special commands) has been expanded:
The command has now been divided up into several sub-commands. These can now be used among other things to correct the capital/small lettering of the album title
Project parameters -> Paths for project:
An additional switch has been included which automatically "links" the project paths to the global parameters (determine data partitions); this solves the problem that a project may still include paths which may have been deleted from the global configuration.
Track-Editor -> Size of the buffer can be set for recording
On special request, the size of the buffer for recording in the Feurio! Trackeditor can now be configured.
    Scanning of mp3 files improved:
As of now, the "Scan mp3 file" window is not closed after every mp3 file and reopened - if several mp3 files have to be scanned, the window is "reused".
Alteration of the internal calculations to 64-Bit:
Until now, we have saved all position references (Track lengths, start and end position etc.) as 32-Bit figures. At 44.1 kHz, the maximum possible size is ca. 10 hours. With larger files (e.g. created with the new mp3 record function of Feurio!) strange errors then occurred.
For this reason we have now changed ALL internal calculations to 64-Bit - so now (in theory) files can now be processed which are as long as the universe is old!

  • Error corrections:
    Project parameters -> User-defined pauses:
When selecting "User-defined pauses" there was a faulty screen view -> corrected.
Import of the "new" FreeDB database didnt work:
The database contains a faulty entry which made Feurio!s import routine crash.
For this reason, checking of the entries has been improved. Unfortunately it is not possible to check all the entries to see if they are correct without slowing down the import routine excessively.
Track-Editor, record audio data, format: MP3 only worked if the buffer size was increased to a minimum of 10 seconds -> corrected.
Wave-Player: Error "Runtime-Error: Pure virtual Function Call" finally found.
Under certain circumstances this error message appeared, in particular when shifting the play-back position. It would now appear that we have finally found the cause and corrected it. If the error still occurs, please send us another mail!
    Auto-Play of Audio-CDs under Windows 2000:
Since version 1.50, Feurio! prevents you starting the Windows Audio CD-player as long as Feurio! is running, as starting the Windows Audio CD-player is disruptive when you want to read the CD with Feurio!.
With certain system configurations unfortunately Auto-Play from Windows didnt work properly any more after ending Feurio! -> corrected!

Feurio! CD-Writer:

  • Special treatment for 90/99-minute CD-Rs:
We have included special treatment routines in several places for the administration of 90/99-minute CD-Rs.
In particular, Feurio! now already recognizes 90/99-minute CD-Rs known to us and shows the correct capacity.
Anyone who finds other 90/99-minute CD-Rs: Please send us the data of the CD-Rs (carry out capacity test, included CD-R in the CD-R database and then send us the entry of rohling.dat).
Furthermore, Feurio! now "knows" about several writers, whether (and to what extent) they can burn 90/99-minute CD-RS and, if applicable, issues a warning.
Any information on further writers is welcome!

  • CD-Layout - Copy onto clipboard and printout have been implemented:
In the CD/Project-layout view (Button: "Layout") the option has been included to print out the CD or project layout or to copy it into the Windows clipboard (for pasting into any other text) .

  • Firewire CD burner:
The company Sony has made 2 burners with a "Firewire"-Interface available to us so that we could verify that Feurio! works without problems with "Firewire burners".
In contrast to e.g. USB, the "Firewire burners" also burn as higher speeds without any problem (8x and 12x were tested). We also didnt have any problem running 2 Firewire burners on one Firewire port at the same time.
So on the basis of our experiments so far, Firewire can be highly recommended.
NOTE: Under Windows 2000 it is sometimes necessary to switch Feurio! over to the access mode "DeviceIoControl" - the ASPI drivers often do not recognize Firewire devices!

  • ToolTips implemented:
To make it easier to use Feurio! we want to implement "ToolTips" in all dialogs, i.e. if the mouse cursor stays over a button or switch for a certain length of time, a short help text on this button is given.
Initially we have implemented the ToolTips in some of the dialogs of the Feurio! CD-Writer (e.g. main window, advance window) -> Please test and see if it works correctly everywhere!
    Comments on this are welcome!
In time, we will then implement ToolTips in all dialogs.
Note: The ToolTips can be deactivated in the system menu of the dialog box (click on the icon in the title bar).

  • Advance window improved:
In the advance window, you can now activate an expanded view by pressing the button "Expanded >>"; in the expanded view in addition a protocol of the burning process is displayed.

  • New CD-Burners:
The following burners are now also supported:
